BIONOMIC INDUSTRIES

Series 5500 Crossflow Scrubber

Overview

The Series 5500 Crossflow Scrubber's low profile lends itself to applications where there is a height restriction or esthetic concern such as indoors or building roof tops and the contaminant to remove is a toxic fume, gaseous pollutant, mist or odor that requires a chemical reagent scrubbing solution. This horizontal packed bed scrubber utilizes a crossflow contact pattern between the gas and scrubbing solution.

The extremely successful Bionomic Series 5500 incorporates a proprietary top and bottom gas mixing system and positive sealing of the packed bed top to eliminate bypass of untreated gas, a typical problem with other crossflow scrubber designs, to achieve the highest removal efficiency possible. A variety of available packing styles ranging from our low pressure drop extremely efficient Hi-Flow dumped packing to high surface area filament media for specialized applications makes this scrubber an extremely adaptable device.

All Series 5500 Crossflow Scrubbers are available as standalone units or as completely engineered assemblies under our ScrubPac™ Series designed to meet the requirements and demands of the application. Additional components can include recirculation pumps, chemical feed system, piping and valve networks, instrumentation and automation controls, ductwork and fan.

How it Works

Contaminated gas enters the Series 5500 Crossflow Scrubber inlet and travels horizontally through a packed bed section. Scrubbing liquid is introduced and distributed at the top of the packed bed and travels downward through the packing media in a perpendicular direction to the gas stream. Frontal bed sprays are also employed on certain applications to enable co-current scrubbing action. Intimate contact and mixing between the scrubbing liquid and gaseous contaminants occurs on the liquid films and droplets formed from the packing surfaces to absorb and chemically react with the gaseous pollutants for removal. The scrubbing liquid drains into an integral sump section at the bottom of the scrubber vessel for recirculation and reuse. The cleaned gas with any carryover droplets enters into the mist eliminator stage for removal before exiting the scrubber.
